What is assessed first?
The duration and pattern of symptoms, clinical examination, previous root filling, seal of the restoration, possible cracks and imaging findings are considered together.
Why might healing not occur?
Untreated anatomy, leakage, new decay, a compromised restoration or a crack can contribute. The aim is to identify the likely cause before recommending another procedure.
What are the options?
Depending on the findings, options can include clinical and radiographic follow-up, non-surgical retreatment, a surgical endodontic approach or another restorative plan. Benefits, limitations and follow-up needs should be explained before treatment.
